Sustainable Livelihood Model Replicates in West Bali

IDEP Foundation is happy to announce the growth of biogas in Bali – the new Integrated Agriculture and Renewable Energy program, supported by partner Boeing Corporation, received positive appraisal from government to ensure replication of this successful, environmentally-friendly community development model can proceed in Jembrana, endorsed fully by local and district authorities.

Recently, public hearing has been reaching sub-district level, and given advice to ascend to the district level. This has been one of the IDEP’s work that also involving local governments and district level in order to take part in the activities of community development, so that the tri-sectorial integration needed for long-term sustainability of the program able to be maintained.

Biogas reactor in-the-making.

The purpose of this program is to create empowered communities with sustainable livelihood in Yeh Embang village. Therefore this program consists of three main activities mutually interconnected, namely the provision of environmentally friendly energy sources, biogas – alternative energy source derived from livestock manure; development of household gardens – the dregs of the biogas reactor (slurry) which can be used as compost; as well as the development of organic seed business together with IDEP.

Boeing project’s beneficiaries have received their permaculture training. The execution of biogas reactors is in the process, followed by the distribution of the gardening tools and building cattle sheds and composting house. The good news is there are 10 farmers who are willing to cooperate with IDEP to be organic seed growers.

Beneficiaries are included in the development process of making biogas reactor.

Tenth biogas reactor is expected to be completed during the third week of June, and after all the reactor is completed, there will be a user training and followed by component intensive training about composting and soil rehabilitation.
