In Indonesia, where education budgets are stretched very thinly, schools rarely have resources for developing natural science laboratories.

To address this, IDEP ‘Learnscapes’ curriculum includes some simple environmental care programs. One component of this is an animal care and study program.

These programs use locally available resources and teach the students a sense of environmental stewardship while giving them important opportunities for scientific study.

These programs include:

• Caring for and rehabilitating stray dogs
• Measuring growth of rabbits
• Caring for birds, crickets & mice
• Worm farming
