Emergency Response in Merapi and Mentawai

Soon after IDEP finishing its emergency response activity in Mentawai and Merapi, IDEP with the support of UBS, Give To Asia, and private donors from IDEP ER fundraising activity started a medium-term community livelihood recovery activities.

The project aims to increase capacity building for the communities so that they are not just able to do a 'responsive' intervention but most importantly to have 'anticipative' DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) approach. The recovery work will use permaculture approach by practising local knowledge and non-chemical plantation activities to support livelihood recovery of the affected communities.

IDEP has also established IDEP National Emergency Team, which consists of Doctors, Volunteers and Camp Managers. The teams established would cover three areas - one in Sumatra, which will cover events in Sumatra; one in Jogja that will cover events in Java, Kalimantan and Sulawesi; and one in Bali that will cover events in Bali, NTT, NTB, Maluku and Papua.
