Environmental Education

Since 2000, IDEP has produced education materials, model projects and training programs to increase the eco-literacy and problem-solving skills to Indonesia's school children and their teachers. This 'Learnscapes' program has received multiple commendations from official Governmental Education departments in various provinces in Bali.

In 2009, IDEP in cooperation with TROCAIRE, began a Disaster Risk Reduction Education program in 10 elementary schools in Bali who have experienced or are located in disaster-prone areas. Various games and media produced by IDEP related to disaster management and environmental awareness were distributed in the schools.

Since May 2012, thanks to the contribution of Luna2 Hotel and Resort from Kerobokan, South Bali, IDEP education team has re-started the program in the elementary school SD2 Lebih, in Lebih village, Gianyar. The contribution allows to carry out activities for a full year! And also involve other elementary schools in the socialization process to be developed in a replication of the program in more schools as soon as other donors will send their contribution.

The main activities of this Environmental Education program include training and education in organic and non-organic waste management in and around the school compound and villages, paper recycling methods, and the advocacy and integration of the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

The Disaster Management Education program features film screenings, incidental earthquake simulations, evacuation mapping techniques and first aid response classes were conducted with great success and response from the students.
